Potsdamer Platz is one of the most famous squares in the centre of Berlin. Before the Second World War, it was a bustling square, but at the end of the fighting, the buildings had largely been destroyed. As a large part of the square lay in East Berlin, the rebuilding never got underway and in 1961 the newly erected Berlin Wall bisected it.
After the wall fell in 1989, the largest building site in Europe was created. In the years that followed, many new buildings were constructed. One of the showpieces was the Sony Center, a multipurpose building with shops, office and catering outlets. The building has an ultra-modern appearance with the roof, in particular, attracting lots of attention due to its fascinating structure. Van den Berk Nurseries supplied Tilia tomentosa for the green decor in the pedestrianised area between Potsdamer Platz and the Sony Center.
