Almost adjacent to the arboretum in Kalmthout, there is a modestly sized garden that needed renewing. The owners hired Koen Aerts van Archi-verde for a design in which trees were to occupy a special place. Inspired by the arboretum around the corner, their preference was for unusual species with a distinctively ornamental value. At the nursery, they opted for a Pinus parviflora ‘Glauca’ to provide the evergreen element of their back garden. The patio was given an elegant elm with delicate leaves: Ulmus minor ‘Jacqueline Hillier’. For the front and sides of the garden, the owners chose multi-stem snakebark maple with striped bark: Acer capillipes
