In spring 2019, we were able to deliver a large batch of trees for a special project in Copenhagen, Denmark. As many as 586 trees of more than 79 different species and cultivars were applied. The diverse tree stock included Nyssa, Zelkova, Juglans, Malus, Pinus sylvestris, Cedrus, Salix, Quercus, Alnus, Cornus, Gleditsia, Styrax, Robinia, Ginkgo, Maclura, Davidia, Ostrya, and many others.
A large number of shrubs were also applied. The total number of plants far exceeded 586 trees, showing that a diverse and extensive green environment was created.
A special aspect of this green project is the presence of fruit trees, including apple trees, pear trees, cherry trees, and berry bushes. This offers residents the opportunity to pick fresh fruit on their doorstep. Nut trees have also been applied, making the green area not only aesthetic, but also functional and nutritious.
One sustainable approach within the project concerns the way rainwater is managed. Rainwater from surrounding buildings is directed to the green area via an advanced piping system. Here, it is given a chance to settle slowly, contributing to natural filtration. Moreover, part of the excess rainwater is stored underground so that it can serve as watering in summer. This innovative water management system promotes sustainable water use and contributes to the health of the greenery.
In short, this project has not only resulted in a greener environment, but also improved the liveability and sustainability of the entire community. Needless to say, we are immensely proud to have been able to contribute to this.
