In 2011-2012, Hengelosestraatweg, a major traffic route linking Enschede and Hengelo, underwent total renewal. The main carriageway was transformed into a bus lane and on each side, parallel carriageways were built to accommodate through traffic. In the olden days, the Hengelosestraatweg used to be what was known as a ‘Napoleon lane’. To return this character to the road, double rows of oaks were planted between and on either side of the carriageways and at a very short planting distance, as was customary at the time. Van den Berk supplied 850 Quercus robur in sizes 30-35-40 from a single uniform batch.
