Hertogsingel makes up part of the old main network and form a stretch of the road linking Maastricht and Hasselt (B). Lime trees have always stood along this road. When reconstruction and widening work had to be carried out on the road in 2010-2011, the trees proved to be so far gone that it was a good moment to replace them at the same time. Under the new road that runs parallel to the railway, a subterranean space for roots in the form of a crate-like structure was built for the new trees. Van den Berk supplied a homogeneous batch of Tilia tomentosa ‘Doornik’ in trunk size 50-60.
