The station area of Breda has changed completely in recent years. A new station has been build including appartments, offices, a bus station and a parking deck. Also the outdoor space was completely redesigned, a project that took 10 years and was completed in 2016. High-quality green plays a prominent role in the outdoor space. Lanes with a total of 385 lime trees determine the green structure and Japanese ornamental cherry trees in the square underpin the allure of the building. The municipality of Breda itself was responsible for the development of a vision on the outdoor space and its implementation. Koen van Velzen was the architect of the building, that won the Dutch prize for Best Building 2017.
