THE SWING originated from a desire to have a green roof without the obstacle of a trunk in the middle of the terrace. Experiments were conducted with varieties of known parasol trees, looking for a shape that was both practical and graceful. The S-shaped trunk was developed in partnership with a supplier. This S shape allows the parasol tree to be planted beside the terrace. Not only is this practical, but it is also better for the tree, because trees prefer not to be planted in pavement. After testing for a number of years, the cultivation technique for the S-shaped trunk was perfected, and patent and trademark applications were filed. In 2012 the SWING trees received the ‘Colour your life’ award at the IPM in Essen, Germany.
SWING trees are cultivated in Platanus x hispanica and Carpinus betulus because both species are appreciated and and match for many designs. From autumn 2020, THE SWING will also be available in Parrotia persica. The S-shaped trunk will give an imaginative and modern ambience to any terrace or garden. SWING trees can be planted in a group to create special visual effects. When planted opposite one another, the trees create a green roof. In a row, repetition produces an impressive impact. By planting SWING trees both alongside and opposite one another, you can provide shade for an entire terrace.
